Family meeting

Today was a good day. Amy and I went for a walk down the beach and shared some awesome carne nachos at a little beach restaurant we like. The kids have been complaining about the lack of good after-school snacks so we went to the grocery store (Pali) and got some things for the young-uns. During our lunch Amy suggested it was time for a family meeting.  (When we started talking about the idea of moving here the kids were excited but a bit nervous and had some questions. One day after school we took them out for ice cream and had our first real family meeting. During the meeting everyone had the opportunity to share the things they were excited about, questions and concerns. It was amazing to see how our kids concerns almost went away when they saw that mom and dad really cared about the things that concerned them.)

When the kids got home from school Amy made them fruit smoothies. A family favorite for all but the guy at the keyboard. We gathered the clan and had a family meeting while the kids drank their smoothies. The boys did not have a care in the world and seemed truly content. Genevieve was good except for the one thing that has been a concern of ours for weeks. There is a lack of girls Genevieve's  age in town. This was a concern of hers before we got here and unfortunately things haven't changed. She does have a friend in town and hangs out with her, but she goes to the public school and they are on different schedules. At her school the girl who is the closest to her age is 2 years younger than her.
She really misses her close friends back home. That being said she is being a real trooper and we are very proud of her.  My biggest prayer is for more girls Genevieve's age .

After the "meeting" we all went down to the beach and played in the sand and water. Not a bad afternoon with my family.

Tomorrow morning Amy and I are going to a beach that is known to have some really good surfing. It is also known to beat people up. I'm ready for my beating....... I think.

  1. Hey fam,

I've been thinking about you guys a lot and hoping you're doing really well. Lynda introduced me to this blog a few days ago, and I just had the chance to read through it. Seems you are having a blast :) Glad to hear it!

I totally understand that pull you felt to move to CR. You didn't really need a reason; you just knew you needed to go. You did the right thing. I'm proud of you all for doing it despite the concerns that could have prevented it. I'm inspired by your wanting to have a simpler life. The lack of TV, the beach, the exploring, the fresh food, the clean air...YES! That's how I've felt when I've traveled to Puerto Vallarta. It's a totally different pace. It's bliss, and it sounds like Costa Rica is the same. :)

So I'm just sending tons of love, peace and happiness your way. Make the most of your year!!!

Much love (and a little envy ;)),
