I would say we are getting into a routine.
The day usually starts about 7:00. The kids get dressed and
eat then I walk them to school which takes about 6 minutes.
When I get back a
few minutes after 8:00 Amy is usually getting up. She usually makes us
blended iced coffee. Which is great. The local coffee places somehow serve warm
iced coffee. It defies the laws of nature not to mention disappointing.
Amy and I usually sit and drink our coffee together. Then we
sometimes take a walk, go surfing, swimming, return e-mails and phone calls, go
check out a new beach. We usually go to the larger town (Nicoya) which is 45
minutes away 1 time a week to shop. Things are cheaper and there is much more
selection there.
Somehow it’s 3:00 and time to pick the kids up again.
After school the kids are ready for a snack. If they didn’t
bring a friend home from school there is usually other kids or friends from
school on the beach. They generally play until 6:00 when it gets dark.
Dinner is usually between 6:30 and 7:00. Then its time to
get ready for bed. The kids actually play together until bed. Believe it or not
they haven’t watched TV in weeks as we don’t have a TV here. They still have
there I pods and DS games but no TV. The crazy thing is they haven’t asked for
TV in 2 weeks.
We try to get the kids in bed at 8:00 – 8:30.
After the kids are down Amy usually gets on the computer and
I set out back and relax listening to the waves, and or make some phone calls.
The last 2 Friday nights we have had some other kids over
for dinner which the kids enjoy.
Saturday is spent with friends on the beach or an outing
exploring another spot.
Sunday starts with church at 10:00. The afternoon is usually
hanging out again. Today I helped 2 other dads from the school build some
needed desks, Dane and Zeke swam at a friends and Genevieve and Amy went to a friends
hotel and swam and visited.
All and all pretty simple. Non stressful. We are enjoying
our time here.
I do want to get involved somehow somewhere. I would like to
do something of value. Although I’m not sure what that looks like yet. Amy has
encouraged me not to show up and “fix” everything like us Americans are prone
to doing. She has encouraged me to look for opportunities while building
relationships. My wife is smarter than I often give her credit………..
