The sick horse

One week ago Saturday on our way to pick up Genevieve and meet friends at another beach the                   Galloper died on the side of the road. I worked on it for a while but did not have any luck. We were told there was a mechanic 1 km. down the road. So my translator (Dane) and I went to see if we could get some help.
We found his "shop" and he quickly dropped what he was doing and gathered his tools. We jumped in his truck and went back to the Galloper. He worked on it for an hour before deciding to tow it back to his place. The boys and the other local kids wanted to ride in the "tow truck"
Before I knew it our car was being disassembled on the side of the road in front of his place.
After several more hours of trouble shooting the problem was discovered.
The timing belt slipped a tooth.
I knew this could be potentially really bad.......
(not did he drop what he was doing and spend all afternoon helping us, he gave us a ride back into town at the end of the day. Talk about full service...)

He asked me to call him on Monday after he pulled the head to see if the pistons had been damaged. After a couple of phone calls made by my friend Kyle who speaks great spanish I was told that the pistons were OK but the head was damaged. All things considered I has content with the outcome. At home you take the head to your local machine shop and have them resurface it and install new valves. But we aren't at home.... The mechanic found a used head that is in good condition and will install a new timing belt along with a few other items. Yesterday he said it would be ready at noon today.
My fingers are crossed.
