The boys went and played with a friend after school today. When the other boys mom (who is also a friend of ours) brought the boys back I noticed she pulled Amy aside. I assumed the boys got into a fight or one of ours did something they shouldn't have done. The boys did get into an argument but not about which super hero is stronger or what video game is better. The three boys are between the ages of 5 and 8 and they had an argument about Creation vs. the big bang theory. I do appreciate that the other boys dad stepped in and stopped the arguing. He told them that "people have different beliefs"and that is OK.
We are aware that this family and ours have different views on politics and religion. That being said we appreciate this family and genuinely like them. My job as a Christian isn't to beat them or anyone for that matter over the head with a Bible. Our job is to be real, to share what we believe, be available to try and answer questions if asked and be friends to everyone even if we have different beliefs. After all God isn't after those who have been hog tied into following him he is looking for those who have chosen to follow him. In fact one of the things that I can't understand about God is that he gives us "free will". If I were God (be grateful i'm not) I would have everyone follow me without question. But I guess those wouldn't be very genuine followers would they ?
I'm sure this "incident" today would freak some people out. Some might not let there kids play with the other kid again. Amy and I just laughed. It gave us good opportunity to talk with the boys. We were able to explain what some other people believe and answer any questions they had. Let's face it, at this age our kids have pretty much believed what mom and dad have taught them to be correct. I look forward to seeing them believe because they know it to be true........
